What does your flood defence product range consist of?

Developed to protect homes from floodwaters at the two main points of entry: external doors and air bricks.

‘Door Guard’ is made from vacuum formed ABS (ABS is a strong, light and flexible thermoplastic product used for such items as automotive body parts, protective headgear, golf club heads and can be recycled) with a watertight rubber seal that can be fitted over even the most awkwardly positioned external door, to help keep dirty floodwaters at bay. The lightweight product is fitted over both the doorway and the doorframe, offering extra protection where it is needed. FLODAM uses a fitting system that is unobtrusive to the eye when the product is not required, yet easy to fit when the time comes. No tools are required and the guards can be put into place in less than 5 minutes, offering strong and proven protection.

The ‘Airbrick Guard’ uses the same technology and principles as the ‘Door Guard’ with an ABS cap and full rubber seals and has been designed to protect all airbricks currently available in the UK.

Are tools needed to fit the product in place?

After initial installation by trained fitters, the product is designed to enable the householder to fit the unit quickly and without the need for tools. Cosmetically there will be very little evidence of the fixings on the premises façade; some small holes will be visible around each doorway. These are hidden by cover caps, which are used to prevent holes clogging up when the unit is not in use.

How does the installation process work?

If you have chosen the installation option, Flodam will install the product at your premises; this installation will be performed by certified installers, once again offering peace of mind to the customer, whilst conforming with our responsibility to insurance companies.

Everything will be explained and demonstrated and an after sales maintenance contract can be supplied to ensure long-term usability and functionality.

Will the flood defence products be supplied with fitting instructions?

Yes, our products are supplied with clear, easy to use instructions for maintenance and fitting. But at the installation everything will be demonstrated and explained to you.

We have a porch / unusual shape front door, will this be a problem?

The nature of ABS allows for the product to be of nearly arbitrary shape, this gives tremendous scope for developing bespoke products as required that will fit every and any door shape and size. If at any time our surveyors do not believe a Flodam product is appropriate we will advice you accordingly.

What is the usual delivery time for flood defence products?

Flodam guarantee installation within 6 weeks from point of order, but will always strive to work within your timescales where possible.

Are your products tested?

Flodam products have been fully tested to PAS1188-1 Kitemark Standard and we are currently seeking accreditation from the Loss Prevention Certification Board, the recognised industry standard for insurance companies.

Will my property be fully protected from Floodwater?

Our products have been developed to prevent floodwaters up to a depth of 900mm entering the property.

Because the pressure exerted by longstanding floodwater that exceeds a depth of 900mm is likely to create structural damage to your property, which will be more expensive and takes longer to repair. Flodam recognises that our solutions will not solve all flood related problems, but Environment Agency figures suggest that for every £1 spent on flood defence a minimum of £8 is saved in flood repair costs.

What guarantees do you offer?

Flodam offer a manufacturers’ one-year warranty on all our product range as a matter of course. We also offer a maintenance agreement, which offers you the additional comfort of knowing that after a flood we will come out to your property and inspect your Flodam products, and repair or replace as necessary to ensure they remain fit for purpose. Our maintenance agreement is available from just £4.70 per month.

How will fitting Flodam products affect my home insurance?

Flodam recommends that the property owner liaise with their insurance provider directly. However, in many circumstances where a previously flooded property has been turned down for insurance, installing flood defence products enables the property owner to obtain insurance. The benefits of fitting flood defences to a property in advance of a flood far outweigh the cost of trying to get insurance cover after flooding. This is not to mention the distress and devastation caused to householders and businesses by flooding that can be prevented.

Can I go away on holiday and know that my house is protected against flooding?

Yes; our products can be fitted in place before you go, and we offer a security bolt for an additional £7.50 per unit hence reducing the risk of the product being stolen offering you even greater peace of mind
