Government agencies, local authorities, water companies insurance companies all of these institutions have an interest in the impact of flooding, but what are they doing to help you the householder?
Well some £400 million a year is spent on flood defences by the Government aimed specifically at large engineering projects to prevent flooding from our rivers and coastlines – the problem is that two thirds of all flooding is from surface flooding and by its unpredictable nature it is difficult to solve by engineering. There is already speculation that some flood defence projects may not survive as the Government seeks to reduce its deficit.
The answer lies with you the householder, it is ultimately your responsibility.
